I just got notice they’re going to extend a final offer to me. It’s a 17% bump in pay and better benefits, and the commute is only another 5 minutes (so 20-25 total).
Now my issue is that I started where I am now at the beginning of June. I’m going to feel like a heel turning in my 2-weeks notice after only being here for three months.

You can’ t work in dreams. They don’t even have an economy!

They’d also fire you tomorrow if it was beneficial to them.

Woohoo! Congrats.
They’ll survive. Just say the words, “sorry” and “dream job”.

I’ll wait until you’ve accepted before I congratulate you.

Not ideal, but SEEYA! I did the same thing after 10 months at a company and just one month after I rolled out my 5 year plan that was accepted.

I am in similar shoes only slightly ahead in time line.
Put in my resignation after landing a fairly nice job - and
- actual 40% bump in pay
- 50% bump in per diem
- and 10% higher bonus.
After about 2 weeks in, I landed another offer whi ch will minimize travel - bring me back to home city and I’ll take a 20% cut from present job

chances are if the company ran into hard times, they wouldn’t hesitate to cut you loose if they felt they needed to . so I wouldn’t agonize over it.

Congrats! Don’t worry about quitting, it would be worse if you were there 3 years, people quit all the time.
A guy in our office just quit today. Effective immediately, just because he didn’t want to work here anymore. He’s my new hero.

hold up, do we opponauts get some say in how much the admins are paid? will all the admins be getting a 17% bump?

Congratulations!

Don’t. I was in the same position as you in 2014, but I didn’t make the switch. After a year I was miserable, luckily dream job was still interested in me but I had to wait 2 more years for an opening, during which time I was mostly hating life and feeling my career slip away.

This is a fact too. Good perspective there.

I did it to the last place I was at with a handful of projects open, and they have turned out well. Luckily my current job seems to be day to day stuff instead of long lead management.

Consider that the current place hasn’t had time to really get used to you yet. The breakup should be relatively painless for them. You can also offer to stay longer than the standard two weeks if it will help, assuming you have that flexibility. A decent employer will understand.
Also, congratulations! Dream jobs don’t come along every day.

No just me, but they fought pretty hard against it until I reminded them that 17% of $0 is still $0.

That’s not too bad except for whatever cost they spent in spinning up your employment. It would have been easier if I were here for only two weeks.

If they run into hard times I’m definitely fucked - they’re worth $4B

of course they fought you hard, mods are notoriously stupid and can’t understand complex math like that.

Now look here good person, we Mods may be notoriously stupid but at least we aren’t dumb.

You can feel guilty, but not too guilty. Take the money and run.

Go on.
